Here at ThingsThatWeDo.com, we try to review current products whenever we can. Many parents will want to watch Madagascar 3: Europe?s Most Wanted sometime this summer. So, this being the opening weekend, my 6 year old daughter and I went to the theatres and watched Madagascar 3: Europe?s Most Wanted. Is Madagascar 3: Europe?s Most Wanted any good? What is Madagascar 3: Europe?s Most Wanted all about? Is Madagascar 3: Europe?s Most Wanted appropriate for young children? How does this latest Madagascar compare to the first 2 movies? Read on and find out our answers to all these questions and more. Given that this might be a very lengthy movie review, expect that I might just have to post it in 2 chunks, one for today and one for the next. Beware though, this movie review for Madagascar 3: Europe?s Most Wanted does come with a lot of spoilers so don?t say I didn?t warn you!

Children?s Movie Review: What is Madagascar 3: Europe?s Most Wanted about?

If you?ve watched the other 2 Madagascar movies then you?ll know that Madagascar 2 ended with our pals Alex the lion, Gloria the hippo, Marty the zebra, and Melman the giraffe still in Africa. This movie Madagascar 3: Europe?s Most Wanted, starts off in Africa with the ever brilliant penguin crew with the chimps in tow are flying away in the airplane to Monte Carlo. While our four friends are waving goodbye, Captain (the head penguin) makes a snide comment that they?re not coming back! Next thing you know, Alex is having a dream sequence and all he sees are his friends growing very very old and they?re still in Africa. Rather than wait for the penguins to return, Alex, Marty, Gloria, and Melman decide to take matters into their own hands (or paws) and go to Monte Carlo to fetch the penguins and the plane so they can get back to New York and to their zoo.

Here?s the short version of what happens next in the rest of the Madagascar 3: Europe?s Most Wanted without too much explanation: Alex, Marty, Gloria, and Melman end up in Monte Carlo casino to fetch the penguins, the humans freak (obviously) and call in the French animal control (not good) run by a very scary looking woman, Captain Chantel DuBois who is determined to add Alex?s lion head to her wall of animal heads (ew!). On the run, the gang end up at a train yard with DuBois on their tails and lo and behold, an opportunity presents itself.

The rag tag group end up with a European circus animal crew after lying that they were also animal circus performers. The European animal circus performers include a very mean looking tiger named Vitaly, a jaguar named Gia, and an adorable sea lion named Stefano along with a host of other animal performers who are all travelling by train to get to their next circus destination. Their hope: success in Europe will lead to a touring contract in America and suddenly Alex, Marty, Gloria, and Melman are one step closer to home, that is, until they actually see the crew perform.

Sadly, this European circus crew has seen better days and all the animal acts are not working. Alex takes the lead and motivates them all to move forward, try new acts and before you know it, this new ?Fur Power? is kicking up quite the successful storm and yep, they get the American touring contract!

Of course, movies are never straightforward and throughout Madagascar 3: Europe?s Most Wanted, DuBois, that nasty French animal control leader seems to get closer and closer to nailing Alex?s head on her wall.

Suspense mounts near the end of the movie when the European animal crew learn that Alex, Marty, Gloria, and Melman really aren?t circus performers at all and they feel betrayed and hurt. By this part of the movie all the animals have bonded together and this truth tears the two groups apart. The circus lands in New York but Alex, Marty, Gloria, and Melman are no longer with them because they?ve headed back to the zoo.

You would think Alex, Marty, Gloria, and Melman would be ecstatic to be so close to home, standing outside the gates of their beloved zoo and yet, it has become obvious that home is no longer at the zoo but lies with the circus and their new found animal family. As they make their decision to go back to the circus, you?ll never guess who shows up with tranquilizers at the ready. YEP.

Now you know it?s a children?s movie so there is a happy ending but I won?t give it away so you have something to look forward to!

Children?s Movie Review: Madagascar 3: Europe?s Most Wanted ? is it worth watching in the theatres?

Now, we chose not to watch Madagascar 3: Europe?s Most Wanted in 3D because my kid says the 3D glasses hurt her head and I get a headache after watching an entire 3D movie. Thank goodness we had the option to watch Madagascar 3: Europe?s Most Wanted as a good ol? regular children?s movie. I mean, really, does everything have to go 3D? I personally find all the 3D movies annoying and excessive and a strain on the eyes.

In any case, in my humble opinion, I think Madagascar 3: Europe?s Most Wanted is worth watching in the movie theatres if you have a young child because there aren?t many movies that are for younger children. Madagascar 3: Europe?s Most Wanted has suspense and it has a lot of funny laughs and a lot of great visuals. It wasn?t too scary or too complex or too risky for the younger age group. If your child has watched the first 2 Madagascar movies then I think they?ll be fine with this one. If your child is really young (e.g. 3 years old) and hasn?t yet watched the previous movies, it would be wise to watch the older version to become acquainted with the characters and their different personalities.

At the same time, I did find the camera work for Madagascar 3: Europe?s Most Wanted a little too fast paced for young children to cope with. There were times, for instance, when my kid (she?s almost 6 ? years old) was watching the movie and she just couldn?t grasp what was happening in that moment and by the time she tried to ask me a question, the scene had changed to another high octane moment. Needless to say, we spent a lot of time after the movie dissecting what was happening and why they happened.

Tomorrow, I?ll continue with my review for Madagascar 3: Europe?s Most Wanted with a few words of caution for parents that plan to bring their children to see this film. Stay tuned!
