Baumgartner named president of Baptist Health Madisonville

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - A new president of Baptist Health Madisonville has been named, effective ?Sept. 23.

The new president, Michael A. Baumgartner, currently serves as president of St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee, Minn. He succeeds Baptist Health Madisonville President E. Berton Whitaker, who announced his September 2013 retirement in April.

Baumgartner, 57, brings more than 34 years? experience as president of various hospitals from North Dakota to Missouri. In his current leadership role, Baumgartner has fostered the growth of St. Francis from a small community hospital to a comprehensive regional medical center, ranked in the top 10 percent nationwide for quality.

?Mike Baumgartner has successfully focused on improving the quality of patient care delivered to St. Francis? patients while expanding services to the community,? said Baptist Health CEO Steve Hanson. ?Those key elements ? along with 30 of 34 years working within faith-based healthcare facilities ? make him a great fit for our family of hospitals and care centers.?

St. Francis Regional Medical Center is jointly owned by Allina Health, Essentia Health and Park Nicollet Health Services, and was founded by a small group of Franciscan Sisters in 1938.

?One of the standout characteristics that made Mike a top candidate for this position is his commitment to the employees and physicians of the hospitals he has served,? said Allen Rudd, Baptist Health Madisonville Board Chairman. ?By taking time to listen not only to their concerns, but their suggestions, he forged a team that saw great success. And in the process, employee and physician satisfaction vastly improved.?

Baumgartner?s healthcare career includes consistent highlights in improved financial strength, collaborations among physicians and hospital leadership, improved efficiencies through technology and IT advances, and a strong focus on giving back to the community.

?I was drawn to Madisonville based on the commitment of Baptist Health to better the health of this tight-knit community, and was truly impressed with the quality and scope of the facilities, physicians, leadership and staff,? said Baumgartner. ?I also share the desire of many to live in a great community, and the best way to accomplish this is to be a part of it ? to get involved. I genuinely look forward to becoming a part of this vital and beautiful area of Kentucky.?

Current President Bert Whitaker announced his retirement in April, after serving Baptist Health Madisonville since June 2006. He led the transition from Trover Health System to Baptist Health, effective November 2012, and counts among his accomplishments the growth of the medical staff, completion of a $1.8 million physician office space and expanded services throughout the region, including two clinics in area Walmart stores to treat minor injuries and illnesses.

Nexus 4 price drops by $100 on Google Play to $199 or $249

Nexus 4

The best deal in smart phones just got better, but why is the price dropping?

When Google put the Nexus 4 up for sale at an unlocked price of $299 or $349 at launch, everyone knew it was an amazing price for what you were getting. Well as we come around on a year since that date, Google has just dropped those prices by $100 to $199 for 8GB or $249 for 16GB — still fully unlocked and available direct from Google Play. For our U.K. readers, the price has also dropped to £159 and £199.

That's a pretty ridiculous price considering you're getting a fantastic device unlocked for the same as what you'd pay on-contract for other phones at a carrier store. We're not entirely sure why Google has decided to drop the prices, but you may want to snatch one up now if you've been looking to get yourself a Nexus on the cheap.

Pandey bowls India A to innings victory

MUMBAI: The India A team's tour of South Africa continues to be a revelation of sorts. After clinching the hard-fought tri-series that had a strong Australian A side as the third team, the Cheteshwar Pujara-led side crushed the hosts by an innings and 13 runs on the fourth and final day of the first unofficial Test at Rustenburg on Tuesday.

Lalchand Rajput, who keeps making an impact as a coach, credited pacers Mohammed Shami and Ishwar Pandey for the win that has given India A a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. Shami (3-29) and Ishwar Pandey (3-25) shared six wickets amongst them while part-time spinner Rohit Sharma scalped two wickets to dismiss the hosts for 212 in their second innings after making them follow on.

"They really bowled their hearts out on a fourth-day pitch and that has only given the team more confidence of winning the next Test as well," an overjoyed Rajput told TOI from Rustenburg.

The lanky Pandey who plays for Madhya Pradesh in Ranji Trophy had match figures of 7-71. His effort earned him special praise from the coach.

"It is still early days for Ishwar, but I think he has the potential to make it big. He has a big heart and doesn't shy away from hard-work," said Rajput.

Resuming at 312 for nine, South Africa were dismissed for 357 in the first innings after Kyle Abbott (33 not out) and Andrew Birch (18) provided late resistance.

Pujara enforced the follow on and Pandey dismissed Reeza Hendricks off the third ball of his first over. Shami then struck twice in the sixth over, removing Dean Elgar (3) and J P Duminy (0) in the space of four balls.

Pandey took his second wicket in the form of Thami Tsolekile in the 35th over before Shahbaz Nadeem sent back Wayne Parnell (10) as South Africa further slumped to 140 for 7 in 41.4 overs.

The Other RG3: Grossman back as Redskins' 3rd QB

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) ? RG3 wishes he had been the first to put a Roman numeral on the back of his uniform.

Not Robert Griffin III. The Washington Redskins' other RG3 ? Rex Grossman III.

"It would have been cool to put it on my jersey as a rookie," Grossman said. "I never thought about it."

Of course, NFL rules didn't permit suffixes on jerseys when Grossman entered the league in 2003. And, as he points out, he didn't have anything close to the marketing cachet of Griffin, who is essentially the reason the rule was changed.

But now that it's permissible, he does have the option of breaking out a "Grossman III" moniker above his No. 8.

"I could now," Grossman said. "But it seems a little bit ..."

Copycat?

"Yeah," he answered. "I'll stick with what I've been doing for 10 years."

For the second straight year, Grossman is the veteran tutor for a young quarterbacks Griffin and Kirk Cousins. He's a third-stringer who didn't play last year and is unlikely to do so again this season.

He's not even a lock to make the team because coach Mike Shanahan might decide to keep only two quarterbacks, although that would dicey if there is any serious concern about the status of Griffin's surgically reconstructed right knee.

For a quarterback who once started a Super Bowl with the Chicago Bears, it's a role that's a bit humbling.

"It's not satisfying," Grossman said. "It's not where you want to be. Every situation's different. My mindset my whole career has been to take advantage of every opportunity you get and go from there."

Grossman was a free agent in the offseason, but there's only so much demand for a 32-year-old quarterback with more career interceptions (60) than touchdown passes (56). He opted to re-sign with reigning NFC East champion Washington, where he's familiar with the offensive schemes and has a front-row seat for the phenomenon that Griffin has become.

"Rex is a true pro," Shanahan said. "He handles himself just like you would hope that any experienced quarterback would handle it. He understands his role. He's very, very good with our young quarterbacks, and he's a big plus for our football team."

When Griffin walked onto the field Saturday for the annual Fan Appreciation Day at training camp, the people roared. He held up his helmet to the fans, then waved his arms to encourage them to cheer more.

When Grossman walked onto field, there wasn't so much as a ripple from the crowd.

Still, it's hard to complain about having a job in the NFL.

"They'll have to kick me out of the league," Grossman said. "If they want me when I'm 50, I'll be here. I'm not a 'retire' guy, so I take every situation given and try to make the best career choice I can."

Notes: Griffin went 13 for 17 in 7-on-7 drills Saturday. Players returning from knee surgery often need a periodic day off during camp, but Griffin hasn't missed a practice. "For that knee not to swell up is a big sign," Shanahan said. The coach wouldn't say when Griffin will start taking snaps in 11-on-11 drills. ... The Redskins announced that "more than 25,000" fans were on hand, and a team spokesman said about 100 were treated for dehydration in the midday heat, including 10 who were hospitalized. ... Saturday was the first practice in full pads at this year's camp. A new rule requires everyone to wear knee pads and thigh pads this season, and Shanahan wants the players to get used to them. ... Shanahan's annual Fan Appreciation Day speech was short and to the point: "We're looking forward to a great year. I think you'll be proud of our football team both on and off the football field. We're going to give you everything we've got, I promise you that, and then some."

Seattle Angel Conference: Angel to (potential) Angel: Investing in ...

I am often asked by friends and colleagues ? ?Tell me about
Angel investing ? how does it work, what are the risks, and how do you pick the
next Facebook?????. As we embark on the 4th Seattle Angel Conference in September, I thought I would share my answers more broadly here. A little over a year ago, I got involved in Angel investing after running a startup focused on data security called Newline Software. I wanted to better understand what investors look for, so I jumped in with both feet, joined Alliance of Angels as well as the Seattle Angel Conference. I took 7 months off between jobs and spent my time driving around Seattle listening to pitches, attending demo days, taking part in due diligence, and meeting with entrepreneurs and other investors. I drank a lot of coffee and learned a ton. At this point, I have now heard somewhere north of 150 startup pitches. There are a lot of very interesting ideas out there. What have I learned? A lot. Trained as a technologist, after being an engineering leader for 20 years at Microsoft, I tended to think more about the technology, and not about the value proposition for the customer and the problems being solved for the customer. As my friend and former Microsoft colleague @CharlieKindel likes to say, I had some things to unlearn from my great experiences at Microsoft. Writing a check is something everyone knows how to do, but the hard part of making an investment is to determine if the startup you are looking at, has a good opportunity to succeed. Unfortunately many do not make it, and as I explain to potential investors, you should be investing a small % of your portfolio into startups and you should do your homework. When I think about my first angel investment, at which time I did not know what I do now, the business plan and pitch I reviewed as great in and of itself - but I failed to compare it to anything else in the industry, and I didn?t talk to any other investors. I was uneducated as an Angel investor, but I did know how to write a check. There are many different ways to look at startups and through my experience interacting with lots of investors, listenting to pitches and talking to entrepreneurs, I have developed my own priority list. Talk to other investors, and they may view things differently. Part of what we do at Seattle Angel Conference is to teach you to come up with your own approach to investing. What I look for, in order of importance, is: -????????? Team - Great ideas don?t execute on their own. You need a team, preferably with some startup experience, that knows how to execute on a good idea, preferably understands and follows the Lean Startup model, and knows when to pivot. The sooner a startup realizes its idea(s) are not right and can pivot, the less amount of money is burned. -????????? Market Opportunity ? It needs to be a big enough market, and enough product differentiation that the product can achieve success. Who is the competition? How will the startup differentiate? If the startup is creating the next great search engine, I would decline as that is a pretty saturated market with entrenched competition. If they have figured out a way to do searches by scanning your brain waves, that might be more interesting. -????????? Value Proposition ? A great question to ask of a startup, is what is the customer value prop? Great technology solutions don?t always translate into customer value. If someone can clearly articulate the value proposition of their product, it usually means they understand the customer needs, the problems they are solving, and how to bring value to the customer. Think about yourself as a customer of many things ? the last time you bought a vehicle was it because it met the needs you had or did you buy it based on an innovation in the engine and the exhaust pipe? -????????? Sales Strategy ? If it?s an addressable market and has a value prop, how are they going to sell it? Ideally they have someone with sales experience on staff. Sales is a lot about connections, building relationships, being able to close a deal. Lacking sales staff doesn?t mean they can?t be successful, however cold calling is hard. Engineers are great at engineering, but not always at sales. If someone tells you the solution is direct sales to small business that is a red flag. That is a sales strategy that is very hard to scale. -????????? Product ? I tend to invest in products that I understand, because it?s easier for me to understand if someone would buy it, easier to determine if it?s a good user experience, etc. I have seen what I think are great products, but in industries that I don?t know. In cases where I know people in those industries, I have reached out and asked them what they thought. I have learned a lot this way.

Lastly, do you homework. Ask other investors. The great thing about being a part of Angel groups, is the opportunity to network with other investors. Through the Seattle Angel Conference and Alliance of Angels I have had the chance to expand my investor colleague network. The opportunity to ask them what they think about a particular deal, what they know about a particular company, and what sorts of investments they are making.?

Tito Ortiz to fight Quinton ?Rampage? Jackson ? in Bellator

It turns out Tito Ortiz is coming out of retirement and he will fight a fellow former UFC champ, but it won't be in the UFC. During Wednesday night's Bellator card, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson announced he will fight Ortiz at Bellator's first pay-per-view. The fight will happen Nov. 2.

Both fighters were UFC champions, and both are riding a three-fight losing streak. Ortiz retired after losing to Forrest Griffin in 2012. Nearly his entire career was in the UFC, and he was the light heavyweight champion from 2000-2003. He often battled with UFC president Dana White, and Ortiz said that broke him.

?Over the last few years, my passion for MMA was completely killed, dealing with UFC politics and with Dana," Ortiz said via press release. "I didn?t have that drive to compete, my heart wasn?t in it. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders."

Jackson left the UFC after his contract ran out and he was not happy with the way he was treated by the promotion.

?Honestly, I feel like I?ve been re-born,? Jackson said. ?My excitement, energy and aggression, it?s all back and bigger than ever. I feel like a kid again. The Rampage you?ll see Nov. 2nd will be better than any Rampage you?ve ever seen."

Both fighters are big names with a large fanbase, but pay-per-views can be a tough sell. As of today, the UFC doesn't have any events scheduled, but that could change. Will you shell out the money to see these two fight? Speak up on Facebook or Twitter.

Travel & Leisure Blog's: Pros And Cons Of Using Airport Limousine ...

For those who use planes most of the time, there is always a need for a good shuttle service that can help you get out of or into the airport each time you travel. Without such services, you might have to rely on someone to pick you up or drop you off every time you have a trip. If you live in Georgia or travel a lot within the state, you may have to find a reliable Airport Limousine Service in Atlanta especially if you like luxury services.

Looking at the things you need each time you take a flight, it is important to point out vital aspects that will affect your journey. Making sure you reach the port in time for the flight is a mandatory step for anyone who does not want to miss a flight. This means you need to have a good shuttle company that will reach in good time for your plane.

Some ports have parking lots of cars making it easy for people going on short trips to bring their cars along. This idea however only works when you have a very short trip so that you do not leave your car at the parking lot for days. You can easily compare the cost of parking fees to that of renting a luxury shuttle before making a choice.

In most cases, you will realize that the parking fees runs into so much money especially if you take many days away. Instead of leaving your car in a strange parking lot for days, you can easily leave it at home and rent a luxury shuttle or cab when necessary. This is very convenient because you do not have to worry about the safety of you car.

Many things can go wrong with your car if you leave it in a public parking lot for too long. Even if the parking lot is safe, another motorist may knock your car accidentally causing serious damage. This can hardly happen if you leave the car in your private garage at home. Even if there is no bad incident, the costs of parking at such places are also high.

If you visit a new town, getting a local luxury shuttle company is a better idea. This is because the drivers know the area well and it is easy to find your way around as long as you have one of them at the wheel. If you are attending a serious meeting, you can relax and attend in style because limousines always command some respect.

This is a situation you can easily avoid by using cabs or luxury shuttles that include drivers. That way, you do not have to worry about traffic laws. The cost of gas is always a concern when you consider traveling by road. If you have to take your private car to every place you go, you might have to foot a very huge gasoline bill.

If you want to stand out from the crowd, you must choose a suitable Airport Limousine Service in Atlanta that has many vehicles in their fleet. That way, you get to choose the best limos for different circumstances. Among the things you can consider when making this choice include the number of passengers you have as well as the places you want to visit.
